All About Tom
Tom became interested in magic at the age of 12 when he did a report on a magic book; less than a year later he was “paid performer” at a Mother-Daughter banquet. In the 31years since that first show, magic has grown from his teenage hobby into his obsession and ultimately into his full-time profession.
In addition to his hysterical comedy stand-up show, he is also a superb sleight of hand magician. While in his Junior year at college in 1985, Tom began performing close-up magic in restaurants. This form of magic – “table hopping” as referred to by magicians – has been a love of Tom’s ever since. He has been a part of the ambiance of various restaurants in Cincinnati, Evansville, Terre Haute, Dallas, and Knoxville. This sleight-of-hand style of magic is also popular at receptions, cocktail parties, tradeshows, and other similar events. In 2002, Tom was offered a full-time position as the house magician at a luxury resort in Boca Raton, Florida.
Tom is also an excellent balloon artist. He boasts of over 250 different creations including cartoon characters (like the Road Runner and Tweety Bird), some awesome hats, and even Elvis! In February 2001, he returned from an international convention for balloon twisters held in Austin, Texas, having entered an original creation that won first place in the “Best Toy” competition. In 2003, Tom completed two instructional videos of more than four dozen creations. He teaches a class through UT’s Personal and Professional Development every quarter for the past five years, and he has begun lecturing around the country about balloon art.
By the way, Tom and his wife Diane live in Maryville and have three children: Bradley, Jonathan, and Jennifer who are ages thirteen, eleven, and nine respectively.
